Creeky SAILS!!! Maiden voyage in photos and videos

Raising and testing the roller furling jib with Carrie

Looks hottt

Just like new

And onto the main

A ceremonious occasion

And we're SAILING!!!

What a difference a year makes.  In 2014 I was dragged into Newport, mastless, broken down, and battered.  After being "shipwrecked" for a year in L'il Rhody I returned in 2015 under sail and with a functional engine.  The emotional contrast alone is indescribable.

On the hook, drama free.  A first of hopefully many more to come.

Topside painting pre and post launch

So, I hate this paint.  And I'm not just referring to the color, which reminds me of my first car (1982 Volvo 240DL wagon).  It was "cute" on the car and would be cute on a dinghy, but it's not the right color for a blue water boat.  The other issue is that it's a single part topsides paint (Petit Easypoxy) that rubs off if you breathe on it.  Whether that's due to the single light coat that was first put on the hull or the inherent poor quality of the paint I don't know (or care).  I plan to go down to the barrier coat and start from scratch with a two part epoxy based paint the next time I haul out, but it wasn't in the budget this year.  Instead, I planned to touch up the cutesy blue with the remaining 1/3 gal of paint that came with the boat.  Just enough to give it a little protection and make it look a little better until the real deal.

Hmmm, that looks a little darker.  It will probably dry to the same color though.

Nope.

So it turns out that fresh coat of the same color didn't quite fade/dry to the same as the original base...  Eff.  I didn't think the color would have faded that much in less than 3 years.

Carrie to the rescue!  At least we got above the waterline so the rest of the touch up could be done from the water, albeit with a little more agility needed.

Ace!!!

Hull repair in photos

Sometimes you think you have everything ready to go, until a surveyor finds a soft spot in the hull...  Nothing better than a last minute repair!  Better to find out about it now than when it's in the water.
